Eric Strachan: A Strong Vision for District B
Safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, and more effective City Government.

Safer Streets
Crime is the most important issue we face in District B, Eric Strachan will take the following steps to make our streets safer.

Ensure police funding is putting more officers on the street, not behind a desk. The City Council’s most powerful tool is the city budgeting process, and as council member, Eric will ensure close oversight and guidance of where police dollars are spent.

Make sure our police officers have the proper equipment and training. Our police force must have the right tools to safely and effectively protect our neighborhoods.

Bring jobs and opportunity to District B. We can’t arrest our way out of this problem. We need to work with businesses and non-profits to bring good, quality jobs to New Orleans. And we need to ensure youth opportunity with programs like Roots of Music and the Youth Empowerment Project.

Stronger Neighborhoods
District B has some of the strongest, most vital neighborhoods in New Orleans– Eric’s plan protects what makes our neighborhoods great, and ensures their continued growth and shared prosperity.

Make it easier for small businesses to get started and prosper in all parts of District B. We need to carry the torch of Stacy Head’s pro-business policies and outreach that helped turn Freret Street into a thriving corridor. Let’s incentivize the continued growth of Oretha Castle Haley and other key areas.

Get blighted properties back into commerce and back into the community. We have to speed up the Sheriff Property Sales to get blighted spaces back into commerce and onto tax rolls. And we must allow community members to propose uses for blight-ridden city owned lots, and if approved, grant them ownership of the land for community use.

Show home owners and home buyers how government can work for them. Lots of people, like those who are buying their first time home or who want to fix up and live in an historic home can benefit from pre-existing government programs. Eric can help more people take advantage of the great programs like the First Time Homebuyers and Soft Second Loan programs, and the State Residential Tax Credits for Rehabilitation.

More Effective City Government
Besides making laws, helping people get what they need from city government is a Council Member’s most important role. Eric understands this fact, and will make life easier for people in three ways.

Eric will draw on his five years of experience solving people’s problems. He is ready to help you do anything from get your pothole fixed or your streetlight turned back on, or to aid your understanding of small business laws and tax incentives. He knows the job, and if he can’t solve the problem himself, he knows who to call.

Common sense, technological solutions to common government roadblocks and hangups. New programs and fixes could save New Orleanians thousands of hours every year. Let’s tap into our expanding tech community and get their input on new services like online city permitting applications, user-friendly guides to getting something done with city government, and location tracking on buses and street cars.

Returned phone calls, answered emails, and continued relationships are what matter. These are seemingly simple things can be rare behavior from city officials. Eric will be there when you need him.
